SUMMARY:WFK Travers Lincoln Portrait (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:The National Portrait Gallery is delighted to announce the installation of a life-size portrait of President Abraham Lincoln by artist W. F. K. Travers. Created from life in 1865\, the 9-foot-tall oil on canvas is one of only three known life-size representations of the 16th president. This historic work arrives at the National Portrait Gallery on long-term loan from the Hartley Dodge Foundation\, whose founder\, Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge\, acquired the painting from her family in the 1930s. A virtual tour of the Smithsonian’s exhibition\, organized by the Lake Bluff Library\, will be offered separately.
